Hello Reader,

It's been a while!

Before I tell you what I have been up to, and hence the long hiatus... let me tell you about the significance of today.

Today, 2nd April is World Autism Awareness Day!
​
A day to really think about and celebrate all the amazing people with autism in our lives.
​
It is also a day to deepen our understanding and culture of acceptance, recognizing that neurodiversity enriches our communities in countless ways.
​
And for our students with autism and their families, today is a reminder of the daily opportunity they go through to learn something new about themselves.
​
Our schools are also not left out!
​
We need to make sure they are places where everyone feels included. Places where our students with autism get the support they actually need. Not just paper support!
​
Early intervention is therefore paramount.
​
Our teachers also need to really understand and be equipped with comprehensive training on autism spectrum disorder, which will enable them to implement effective and inclusive teaching strategies.
​
These things are doable! We just need to be intentional about it.
​
Lastly, we all need to work on breaking down those old stereotypes and misunderstandings, just by talking and learning more about autism.
​
And to all parents and caregivers of children with autism, I celebrate you!
​
You deserve so much support beyond what you receive. You need access to resources, support groups, respite care, accessibility for your kids, and most of all respect.
​
